BIG BEAR CHARTER FISHING

Several Trout    Trout Catch    Trout Catch

Trout Fishing Charters:
Undoubtedly, the most common and sought after fish in the lake by most fishermen. Big Bear Lake is one of the best trout fisheries in Southern California. The high altitude and cool water year round makes excellent fishing for Rainbow Trout. Aaron offers three different fishing trips for trout: an open charter (pontoon trolling only), a private charter pontoon boat and a private charter bass boat. Other descriptions are listed under the specific charters located under boats and equipment.

Trolling for trout with downriggers is the most requested method of fishing. This style of fishing allows us to fish constantly with eight lines, each set at different depths in the water. The line is attached to a clip, lowered into the water, and when the fish bite the hook, the clip releases the line and it's time for you to reel!. There's no lead core line to add weight to, which could interfere with the fight of your trout. The boat is constantly moving, so by having eight lines in the water and covering a lot of water space, it's common to pick up two fish at one time (double hook up) or sometimes even three or four fish at a time - pure adrenaline!

Open Charters
Just as the name describes, this Charter is open to everybody. the open charters are only done on Aaron's Pontoon Boat. This is the least expensive of any trip offered at $85 a person, with a two person minimum to start a trip. You can open a trip with a friend and if you're lucky, nobody else will book and you will have the entire boat to yourself! Most of the time when your trip is underway there will be other people fishing alongside you. During the trip there will be 8 lines in the water and you will rotate on reeling in the fish. If there are 6 people on the boat, you get every sixth fish to reel up. This works great for some people (but those who do not want to share the fish might be interested in a private charter). The only fishing done on the open charters is trolling for trout. This fishing is done with downriggers with the boat constantly moving and with a maximum of 8 fishing lines in the water at one time. If we have enough people to legally run 8 lines, we can.

On a Private Charter Pontoon
You can troll for trout, or if you prefer, Aaron can throw an anchor and we can bait fish. Bait fishing is generally done with worms and power bait. This is a great substitute for groups that do not like trolling. Keep in mind if you are bait fishing, it's easier for groups with six or less people, since it is often difficult to cast when the pontoon is full. If your group is seven or more, Aaron recommends trolling with down riggers instead of Bait fishing.

On a Private Charter Bass boat
Although the name implies bass fishing, we can go out on Aaron's bass boat and cast for Trout, Bass, Crappie, or Bluegill. This style of fishing is all cast and retrieve or casting lures. Aaron has many ultra light rods set up with 4lb - 6lb test line. This is the best set up for casting small lures for trout.
